I was in-charge of the lesson for a day and basically, I am in-charge for the class routine for a day. Here is a glimpse of my participation.
Before starting the lesson I am the meeting host I gave a brief overview on the lesson for the day I gave a warm up activity During lesson proper I was the one presenting the slides___ I was in charge on the lesson proper/ I discussed on class I gave an example with explanation After the lesson proper I assisted in assessing students I gave few tips and reminders on solving an equation I administered in clarifying students' questions/misconceptions Reflection 1. During your assisting task in establishing routines, what are the problems that you have encountered in carrying out the different transition routines? As far as I remember, it's the internet connection. The students engaged in the meeting, they were so active, the class was going on smoothly. After few minutes, while I was talking, my internet went slow so the momentum got lost and I had to repeat what I just said. Also, on the formative assessment part, some students are hesitant to speak and answer my questions. Therefore, another problem I encountered was the lack of cooperation from the class, of course we cannot force them to speak and they have the advantage since they can disappear in a class anytime they want.
Based on your assisting experience in establishing routines, write your thoughts of an organized and happy classroom. It is vital to set the mood of the class before starting. Giving a not so intimidating but fun class although I admit I'm still on the process of enhancing my teaching skills to be able to implement that. After the overview of what's to be discussed, it's important to catch the attention of students. What I did is I made them comment 'g' before I formally start the discussion. I also did diagnostic test and while on the lesson proper, I made sure to give students a chance to speak their thoughts and made them as engaged as possible. The flow should be steady and even with sudden difficulties, the lesson must be saved. Also, I want to emphasize the student-centered class where the strategies of teaching depends on the students. Creating a friendly and fun ambiance while learning. On the last part, it is important to answer questions and clear misconceptions, and relay appreciation towards students for listening and being active.
